    Understanding the price

Tree pruning costthe height, the access, the wood to take away

What does tree pruning really cost in South Finistère? Here is what makes the price vary, the technique each height calls for, and how to read a quote so that you compare like with like. Removal and travel included.

What height changes, tree by tree

Height does not set a price, it dictates a method. And the method is what makes the cost of a job.

Green waste removal and travel are included. Every tree is different: only a written quote, drawn up after a site visit, commits Arb'Ouest.

    The detail, height by height

Height is not everything, but it determines the technique, and the technique determines the price.

How much does it cost to prune a 5 m tree?

Below 5 metres, on a trained fruit tree or a standard-trained shrub, Arb'Ouest works from the ground or from a secured ladder. No climbing, no rigging of branches: it is the quickest job in the trade, and the least expensive. Removal and travel included, in South Finistère.

How much does it cost to prune a 10 m tree?

At 10 metres, rope access becomes necessary and the volume of wood to bring down changes scale. It is the first threshold where the job is counted in hours of climbing. On a mature prunus, maple or garden lime, Arb'Ouest prices the job after a visit, removal and travel included.

How much does it cost to prune a 15 m tree?

Between 10 and 15 metres, on a young oak, a maritime pine or an informal cypress hedge, it is what lies under the crown that decides the price. A roof or a power line means lowering every branch on a rope, and the job takes twice as long. Price set after a visit.

How much does it cost to prune a 20 m tree?

At 20 metres, on a mature oak, a beech or a tall seaside pine, Arb'Ouest allows half a day at least. The question that decides the price: can the trailer get to the foot of the tree? If the wood has to come out by wheelbarrow, the time needed changes completely.

How much does it cost to prune a 30 m tree?

Above 20 metres, the work moves from routine pruning to work on a veteran tree, by the day. These trees almost always justify a prior assessment: badly managed pruning on a tree of that age cannot be undone. Arb'Ouest prices the job after coming to see the tree.

Looking for the cost of tree felling at Arb'Ouest? It is priced on a different logic: what counts is no longer the volume of the crown, but the way the surroundings require the tree to be brought down. What sets the price of felling, dismantling, removal and stump grinding included, is explained on the tree felling cost page.

What makes the cost of pruning vary

Two trees of the same height can be priced twofold apart. Six factors explain most of the gap.

The height and volume of the crown

It is the first factor. A 20 m tree cannot be pruned from the ground: it needs rope access, a slower working pace and far more risk management than a 4 m fruit tree.

Access to the foot of the tree

A tree at the end of an enclosed garden, with no way through for the trailer or the chipper, can double the time spent on removal. Conversely, a tree by a road with parking nearby brings the bill down.

    What lies beneath the tree

A roof, a conservatory, a power line or a fence under the crown calls for dismantling by rigging: Arb'Ouest lowers each branch on a rope rather than letting it drop. The technique is safer, but slower.

    Species and tree health

Hardwood slows the cutting. A declining or hollow tree calls for extra precautions, sometimes a tree health and safety assessment before any work.

    Green waste removal

Chipping on site and reusing the chips as mulch costs less than taking everything to the tip. At Arb'Ouest, the wood is put to use whenever the job allows.

    Storm emergencies

A fallen or threatening tree jumps the queue: Arb'Ouest handles it 7 days a week. This kind of job falls outside the usual reckoning: the state of the tree and the danger to the house decide the amount, which is set on site.

    Frequently asked questions about prices

How much does tree pruning cost?

Arb'Ouest does not publish a price list, because no price list tells the truth about a given tree. Three things set the price: the height, which dictates the technique; the access, which decides whether the wood leaves by trailer or by wheelbarrow; and the volume to take away. The price is set once the tree has been seen, travel and removal included.

How much does tree felling cost?

Felling follows a different logic from pruning: its price depends on how the tree is brought down, not on the volume of the crown. What makes it vary, dismantling and stump grinding included, is explained on the page about tree felling cost.

    Is green waste removal included?

Yes. Removal is included by default in every Arb'Ouest quote, as is travel. It can appear as a separate line on the quote if you ask. The wood is chipped on site and reused as mulch whenever the job allows.

Do I pay for the quote?

No. Maxime Caradec always comes to see the tree, and that visit is not charged. The quote is sent within 72 hours of the visit; allow a week from December to February. It itemises each part of the job, pruning, removal, any stump grinding, so that you can compare freely.

    Is tree pruning tax-deductible?

No. Pruning and felling ornamental trees do not count as home-help services in France: no tax credit or tax reduction applies. It is the most frequent question before signing. The French home-help scheme covers light garden upkeep, such as mowing, trimming low hedges and weeding. Pruning at height and felling count as tree work and are excluded. The amount on the quote is therefore the amount you actually pay.

Why can two quotes differ twofold?

Because they do not always cover the same thing. Before comparing an Arb'Ouest quote with another contractor's, check three points: is green waste removal included, is professional liability insurance mentioned, and is the technique stated? Dismantling by rigging has neither the cost nor the risk of felling a tree in one piece.

How soon does Arb'Ouest do the work?

Arb'Ouest carries out the work within fifteen days in the low season and within a month in the high season, from your request. Storm emergencies fall outside that schedule: they are handled 7 days a week. Anywhere within 30 km of Fouesnant, the written quote follows the visit.

    Do you handle storm emergencies?

Yes. A tree fallen on a house is an emergency: Arb'Ouest handles it 7 days a week within 30 km of Fouesnant. Get in touch first, by WhatsApp or by phone on +33 6 58 19 19 32. Keep away from the tree and do not climb onto the roof: a tree resting on something still holds considerable energy.
