How soon can a stump be ground out?
Allow about fifteen days in the quiet season and up to a month in the busy season, within 30 km of Fouesnant. On site, Maxime Caradec tells you what the ground will allow afterwards.
What a stump left in the ground does
It stops the mower. The blade hits it, and you end up going round that corner, leaving a tuft of long grass.
It sends up shoots. Willow, poplar, false acacia or laurel grow back from the collar the following spring, and the tree you thought was gone is back in two or three years.
It stops you replanting in the same spot, because the wood and the large roots take up the space.
Grinding removes the collar, and with it most of the shoots. What remains of the deep roots breaks down without bothering anyone.

How deep is the stump ground out?
